TLC Book Tour + Giveaway for "One Bird's Choice" by Iain Reid

*Please read through to the end of the post for details on how to win a copy of this great book.*

One Bird's Choice by Iain Reid is an absolutely hilarious, touching, and delightful memoir of a twenty-something who moves back home to live with his parents again. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this story!

Iain lives in the city in Toronto. He's been out of his parents' house and living on his own for a decade. But, now he is moving back to the country to Ottawa to live on the farm with his parents again. At times I laughed so hard that I was crying. I was laughing and crying so hard that I was out of breath and couldn't see to read! Please don't let the word "memoir" scare you off! This is as entertaining as any novel!

Iain's parents are quirky but so very loveable. They can be quite amusing but what makes it so much funnier is seeing them through the eyes of this young man who has just moved home after being on his own for years. He is at a sort of crossroads in his life and there are also some very touching moments as well. I could relate to Iain's story in some ways because I too grew up on a farm where nothing was farmed except for a large variety of pets. And, believe it or not, we had guinea fowl! Ours were on the farm when we moved there when I was a young girl. For those of you who have not read the book, well, you're just going to have to read it so you'll understand!

I VERY highly recommend this book. It is incredibly well written, laugh-out-loud funny, but also very open, honest and touching as well. When I finished the book I felt like I knew this family and I didn't want it to end! Iain is a very talented writer, with a fabulous sense of humor and a wonderful heart! I wish him great success with this book and in the future!

Book Summary:

Meet Iain Reid: an overeducated, underemployed twenty-something, living in the big city in a bug-filled basement apartment and struggling to make ends meet. When Iain lands a job at a radio station near his childhood home, he decides to take it. But the work is only part time, so he is forced to move back in with his lovable but eccentric parents on their hobby farm. What starts out as a temporary arrangement turns into a year-long extended stay, in which Iain finds himself fighting with the farm fowl, taking fashion advice from the elderly, fattening up on a gluttonous fare of home-cooked food, and ultimately easing (perhaps a little too comfortably) into the semiretired lifestyle. A hilarious and heartwarming comic memoir about food, family, and finally growing up, One Bird’s Choice marks the arrival of a funny, original, and fresh new voice.

Sounds like an awesome story! The moving back home saga is becoming a rite of passage for many in this generation. And the story has extra appeal because I love radio and the crazy people who work in the business. I'll definitely look for this one!

Sounds like a humerous and sometimes sad story. If you can't make i t on your own and have to go back home to have a roof over your head, that is just sad.
