"POSTCARDS FROM THE APOCALYPSE" by Allan Leverone

POSTCARDS FROM THE APOCALYPSE by Allan Leverone is a collection of his short stories. They range from some lighter crime stories, to some darker crime and noir, and some that would be considered horror. I think there's something for everyone, and I personally loved it all!

I began to hear a lot about Allan Leverone through some publicity tours and I knew I was going to like his writing before I ever had the chance to read any of it. And I was right! His writing is exquisite and the stories are intelligent. His writing made me hang on every word and I have to tell you honestly that it really takes the special ones to do that. I read SO much. And don't get me wrong, I enjoy it all. But, because I do read a lot, it takes the really great ones to really thoroughly captivate me!

Some of his stories are a bit dark and twisty. And I love it! :)  Of course, I grew up reading Stephen King, and I love a good dark and twisty story! Now, it occurs to me that there might be some of you who might be thinking..........but don't you review Christian fiction? I do. And I love it. I love books and I love a wide variety of them. I read fiction as fiction. And, I don't really get scared by what some people call "scary" books. That could be from cutting my teeth on Stephen King, but honestly, my real life as a single Mom, now THAT'S scary! So, books and fiction are escape and entertainment for me. But, I do know that some of you choose to read Christian fiction, so that's why I will always leave a note in my review whenever a title is not a Christian book. Because I believe it's each person's choice whether or not they choose to read that book. And, I really don't want to start labeling with genres on my blog because I hate to think that someone might miss out on a book they might have really enjoyed just because they saw a particular genre and thought they wouldn't like it, so they didn't read about it. And I do think that happens. Now, sorry about that sidetrack and back to this awesome book!

I really can't tell you much about this book because you know how I feel about giving away plot details. I don't do that! And, I especially would not want to give away anything from any of these stories because he has some fabulous twists and I would never want to spoil that for you! And, with each story being a short story, well, I just don't want to chance giving anything away!

I VERY highly recommend this book! The writing really is exceptional, and when I say that it's intelligent, that's actually a really big plus for me! I have a brain and I like to use it! He also has a great sense of humor and it especially comes through in the last two stories, which are his lighter crime stories that feature Uncle Brick.

Stay tuned because next week I'll be reviewing his thriller Final Vector. In the meantime, please check out POSTCARDS FROM THE APOCALYPSE. You'll find links to purchase it below and for $2.99 it's a steal!

(For my blog readers who only read Christian books, this is not a Christian fiction title. There is some language and violence.)

About the book:

A dying city, cut off from the rest of civilization. A midnight visit by three people to a deserted graveyard from which only two will return. A young woman who haunts the nightclubs of the city in an endless search to find the man who ruined her life...

Included among these seventeen shocking tales are Allan's three Derringer-Finalist stories: "Regrets, I've had a Few," "Independence Day," and "Uncle Brick and Jimmy Kills," as well as the 2011 Pushcart Prize-nominated "Dance Hall Drug."

Buy this book on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, or Smashwords for only $2.99!

Let me tell you something about Allan Leverone. I've had him on tour for a little over a month now, and then I spent quite a bit of time working with him preparing for his tour...this guy is phenomenal and if you try to tell him, he's so humble. Don't you just love humble people? I'm serious, the guy is great. It's no surprise you loved Postcards from the Apocalypse...we're not touring this book right now...we're touring Final Vector so if you love Allan's other book, I'm sure you'll love Final Vector. Fantastic review, Michelle, and thanks for letting us know about it!

Hi Dorothy,

Thanks a lot for the kind words! It's hard not to be humble when I'm basically making stuff up and writing it down. I look at it like this - it's the sort of thing that got my knuckles rapped by my mom when I was a kid, and now I get to do it with abandon!

Cheryl, I talked to you during the Pump Up Your Books Facebook Party last week, right? It was a wild free-for-all in there, but I'm pretty sure I recognize you. Thanks a lot for stopping by and if you decide to check out POSTCARDS, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Sounds like a great collection. I really like a variety and some collections are just repeats of the same thing over and over. This sounds different - and I'm hearing great things about the author, too!
