TLC Blog Tour + Giveaway for "The Metropolis Case" by Matthew Gallaway

*Please read to the end of the post for instructions on the giveaway.*

The Metropolis Case by Matthew Gallaway tells the incredible stories of several different people in different times and places who are all connected by Richard Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde.

The eras range from 1860 Paris, to 1960 Pittsburg, to 2001 New York City. And the characters are just as diverse. You don't have to be a huge fan of the opera or theater to appreciate this novel. I really am not very acquainted with either but I felt transported into that world. If you are a theater and opera fan, then I can only imagine you would probably love it all the more. (And probably laugh at this hick for not appreciating it enough. LOL)

I really loved his characters. Characters are so important to me in any book. It can be an awesome plot but if I don't care about the characters, then I'm just not going to care about the book. I really cared about all of the characters in these stories and I was rooting for each one of them, especially Martin, who was my favorite. In the beginning of the book you don't really see the ties between the different stories and the author slowly gives you clues to the connections as the mysteries begin to unravel.

For my blog readers who only read Christian books, this is not a Christian fiction title and there is sex and languange.

I highly recommend this book! It is wonderfully written and I was especially impressed at the weaving together of all the different stories without it feeling cofusing or too jumpy. I thought it was very well done and I thought the ties between the different stories were fascinating! It's very theatrical, intellectual, and philosophical. This was one where I stepped a little out of my box because the book caught my eye and I'm really glad that I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You can stop by here and follow all the stops on the blog tour.

Book Summary:

Readers of sweeping literary fiction such as The Hours, The Emperor’s Children, and The Historian will be immediately drawn into Matthew Gallaway’s debut novel: THE METROPOLIS CASE (Crown; On-Sale: January 2011). From the smoky music halls of 1860s Paris to the tumbling skyscrapers of twenty-first-century New York, Gallaway imparts the sweeping tale of an unlikely quartet, bound together by the strange and spectacular history of Richard Wagner’s masterpiece opera Tristan and Isolde.

With his captivating voice and engaging characters, Gallaway effortlessly moves between Europe in the nineteenth century, 1970s Pittsburgh, and 1980s to twenty-first-century New York City. He introduces us to Martin, a lawyer who, at at age forty, feels disconnected from his life; Maria, a tall, awkward, ostracized teenager, attempting to break free from the doldrums of Pittsburgh and harness the power of her extraordinary operatic voice; Anna, destined to be a grande dame of the international stage, emerging from her cocoon to step into the spotlight; and Lucien, a young singer present at the birth of the modern age, who races through the streets of Europe in an exuberant bid to make the most of every breath.

Together theirs is a story of music and magic, love, death, secrets, and betrayal, grandly operatic in scale, that will keep readers spellbound through the last page.

Ah, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I was a little concerned about you in particular after I read the first couple reviews on the tour because I had discovered there was some sexual stuff in the story. In any case I'm very happy that you liked it. THank you so much for being on the tour!
