**UPDATE** I'm going to actually draw TWO winners. One will win the giveaway offered from the publisher and the other will win the second copy of the book that I have.
*Please read to the end of the post for instructions on how to enter to win a copy of this great book.*
Love on Assignment by Cara Lynn James is book two in her Ladies of Summerhill series. Book one is Love on a Dime and you can read more about it here.
This story is set in Newport, Rhode Island in 1900. The Gilded Age is an era where women are secretaries and you find them in offices behind typewriters, but they are not reporters. Charlotte Hale is a secretary for Arnold Phifer at the Rhode Island Reporter, but what she really wants to be is a journalist! She wants to be a reporter out there finding stories and writing the stories for the paper. She might get that chance, if she's willing to take a very controversial assignment.
This story will transport you to another time and place. It portrays the Gilded Age beautifully, with it's constumes and social customs of the era, along with the beautiful scenery of this coastal area. The author does a fabulous descriptive job of whisking you away to feel as if you're part of this story.
I very highly recommend this book to anyone. It's well written and will keep you hooked from start to finish. The characters are wonderful and the book has a great message. The scenery is beautiful and although I've never been there, I feel as if I have, after reading this book. I will be looking forward to book three, Love by the Book coming in July 2011!
Stop by and visit all the stops on the blog tour here.
Book Summary:
While Charlotte is focusing on uncovering sordid information on columnist Daniel Wilmot, her heart leads her into uncharted territory.
During the summer of 1900 Charlotte Hale, a native Newporter and secretary for the Rhode Island Reporter, accepts an undercover assignment as a temporary governess to Daniel Wilmont’s children in order to secretly gather evidence against him. As he helps her rediscover God, Charlotte learns that Daniel is an honorable man. They unexpectedly fall in love despite their different backgrounds and social positions. Charlotte soon realizes she must defend Daniel against the forces set against him—a willful student with a romantic crush and the newspaper editor determined to destroy his reputation.
