TLC Blog Tour for "The King's Daughter" by Christie Dickason

The King's Daughter by Christie Dickason is a captivating and realistic story that is based on real historical people and living life as a royal pawn.

I love books like these that are about real historical characters. What always strikes me is the fact that for someone of noble birth, espeically a woman, their life is never their own. A daughter is was not loved and cherished like we treat our children. A daughter was considered an asset and used as a commodity to better the parents' welfare. Children in royal families, as in this story, often only had very formal relationships with their parents and only saw them at ceremonial events and spoke formally. That is so hard for most of us to imagine.

This particular story takes place beginning in 1605 in England and tells the story of a young girl named Elizabeth. She is the daughter of the King, and the second eldest child. The only other friend she really has is her older brother Henry who is the next in line to the throne. This brother and sister share a special bond because they are close, and because no one else can really understand the pressures of their lives except each other.

I always add a quick note to let my blog readers know when  book is not Christian fiction. This book is not a Christian fiction title.

I very highly recommend this book. It's wonderfully written and very well researched. The author adds a couple of fictional characters but the majority of the characters are based on real historical figures. I thought it was very realistic. I was drawn in by Elizabeth and Henry right away and I loved their characters. The story is full of suspense, history, drama, and romance. I will certainly be looking for more of Christine Dickason's books!

Book Summary:

The daughter of James I, the Princess Elizabeth would not be merely her father’s pawn in the royal marriage market.

The court of James I is a dangerous place, with factions led by warring cousins Robert Cecil and Francis Bacon. While Europe seethes with conflict between Protestants and Catholics, James sees himself as a grand peacemaker—and wants to make his mark by trading his children for political treaties.

Henry, Prince of Wales, and his sister, Elizabeth, find themselves far more popular than their distrusted father, a perilous position for a child of a jealous king. When Elizabeth is introduced to one suitor, Frederick, the Elector Palatine, she feels the unexpected possibility of happiness. But her fate is not her own to choose—and when her parents brutally withdraw their support for the union, Elizabeth must take command of her own future, with the help of an unexpected ally, the slave girl Tallie, who seeks her own, very different freedom.
