Sounds Like Crazy by Shana Mahaffey is fresh, touching, humorous, thought-provoking, and totally unique. I loved taking this adventure with Holly and her "Committee"!
Many of you who read my blog regularly know that I'm very particular about never giving about plot details. In this one particular case, I think you need to know that Holly has Dissociative Identity Disorder. She is covering up some trauma from her past that she doesn't remember. So, Holly comes complete with a full Committee. That's all I'm going to tell you. Beyond that, you need to read the book! I just felt that you needed to know that much to know if this book is for you. The concept fascinated me, I immediately wanted to jump at the chance to review this book. It so happened that while I was typing the email to the publicist to ask for the book, she was getting ready to email me because she thought I would be a perfect fit for this book. Hmmm. I thought about that for a minute and wondered if I should be offended by that. LOL. It turns out, it was a perfect fit because I adored the book and Holly!
I found out a lot about this condition. I really didn't know much before, and I found it fascinating to learn. Some of it really blew my mind, and then at other times the author had me laughing at loud. The story takes us through a whole gambit of emotions with Holly and takes us on a healing journey with her. One thing that struck me about her is that even though Holly and her Committee are a bit outrageous, there are always times when you can relate to her. It's not like she's this person you can't even relate to. She just does some quirky things. Often, though I found myself thinking that I could relate to her.
I review both Christian and non-Christian books on my blog, so I always make a little note when it's a non-Christian book, so those readers will know. This one is not a Christian title.
I VERY highly recommend this book! The story will grab you from the start and you won't be able to put it down. Holly will steal your heart, even if she will frustrate you sometimes. You'll laugh and you'll cry. And you'll be rooting for Holly all the way! I'm hoping to see more from Shana Mahaffey!
