TLC Blog Tour for "Up From the Blue" by Susan Henderson

Up From the Blue by Susan Henderson is so amazing! I was hooked from the start and will feel forever connected to Tillie!

(If I have any typos, please forgive me! We had our annual Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society, so I was up all night and I'm exhausted!)

We first meet Tillie as an adult in 1991 and then as an 8 year old in 1976. At the risk of aging myself, I was 10 in the year 1976 so all of the things she talked about, like the cardboard records cut out from cereal boxes, and Tiger Beat magazines, etc, I remembered so well! I felt as if I were a kid again along with her, and I got so frustrated with the adults in her life! She had such a difficult childhood and I felt so badly for her. I felt her pain and heartache. There were times when I wanted to get just as angry with her brother but then I realized he was just a boy too.

This is a story that will send you on an emotional roller coaster. It will take you through Millie's life, as an adult and as she looks back to her childhood. It's difficult but also full of hope. There are twists and suprises as truths are revealed.

Since I review both Christian and non-Christian books and I have a few of my blog readers who only read Christian books, I always tell them when one of the books is not a Christian title. This one is not a Christian title. There isn't anything in it that I would warn against. There isn't language or anything like that to warn against.

I very highly recommend this book. It's very emotional. It's wonderfully written and it grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the very end. I loved Tillie and felt for Tillie and rooted for Tillie! I laughed and I cried and sometimes almost at the same time. The story is heart-wrenching and it will stay with you long after you've read the book! I hope to read more from this great author! I loved this fabulous book!

Book Summary:

Tillie Harris's life is in disarray—her husband is away on business, the boxes in her new home aren't unpacked, and the telephone isn't even connected yet. Though she's not due for another month, sudden labor pains force Tillie to reach out to her estranged father for help, a choice that means facing the painful memories she's been running from since she was a little girl.

An extraordinary debut from a talented new voice, Up from the Blue untangles the year in Tillie's life that changed everything: 1975, the year her mother disappeared.

This sounds fascinating. I'm glad you said that it is also full of hope too. I can handle angst as long as I have a thread of hope to cling too!
